Agile transformations have two key components: “The Task” and “Reflection on the Task”. If you are leading or participating in an agile transformation (or indeed any change effort), and you’re not making substantial room for “Reflection on the Task”, little will change. And if the Reflection is shallow, likewise – little will change.

I can give you a hammer or a saw or a chisel, and I can show you how I use them. But I can’t wield them for you. To use them well, you have to actually touch them, work them, mess up a bit, and try again. I can be alongside you for that and tell you what I see, and maybe even what I think about that. But I don’t know how the thing feels in your hands, so it’s up to you to keep practicing and working to get the results you want.
